About us
Hi, I'm Brooke, founder and owner of IBM Yarns (Inspired by Margot). I picked up a crochet hook while waiting for the arrival of my first daughter, just after losing my German grandmother, Margot. She loved all things fiber, and crochet became my way of staying connected to her, a creative tribute that has grown into something much bigger.
What started as a small hobby making thoughtful crochet gifts soon became a passion for cotton. Frustrated by the lack of variety and quality at big craft stores, I wanted something better, something that reflected the care and creativity I put into every project.
Dyeing cotton wasn’t easy. Unlike wool, it’s less common, so information was limited and sourcing quality yarn was a challenge. I taught myself through trial and error while working full time and raising two young children. Every spare moment counted, and through perseverance, IBM Yarns began to take shape. Along the way, I refined my process, developed the soft, colorful pastels you see today, and continue to learn more about cotton fibers, dyeing techniques, and how to get the best results for every project.
Now, dyeing cotton, curating beautiful notions, and offering high quality commercial yarns is at the heart of what I do, alongside being a dedicated mum.
My mission is to provide customers with something truly special and high quality, while supporting local Australian businesses wherever possible.
