This yarn is almost like a shiny linen. It has a light feel to it, and is slightly more airy than our Pima cotton. It knits up into a delightful, drapey fabric with a soft sheen. Cupro is a really interesting fibre, made from the stalks and leaves of the cotton plant, that would otherwise be wasted.
The difference between Cupro and other Cotton
Cupro and regular cotton are both plant-derived fibres, but they feel and perform quite differently.
Cotton is made directly from the fluffy fibres of the cotton plant. It’s breathable, absorbent, durable, and usually has a more matte, natural feel.
Cupro is made from cotton linter (the tiny leftover fibres around cotton seeds) that are processed into a regenerated fibre. It’s much smoother, silkier, drapes better, and often feels cool against the skin.
In short:
- Cotton = natural, practical, breathable everyday fibre
- Cupro = cotton byproduct turned luxe fabric with silky softness and flow
Think of Cupro as the elegant, dressier cousin of regular cotton.
